About the event

In 2014, two Star Trek fans decided to do a documentary style short film based in the Star Trek universe under the company Axanar Productions.  With the help of some savvy crowd funding campaign people, their goal of $10k was surpassed 10-fold, raising just over $100k for their short film. The reception of the film could not have been better and as it is done in our industry; you strike while the iron is hot.  They set their sights on raising more money to do a follow up film but this time a feature film.  And again, they surpassed their expectations and raised over $1m.

Unfortunately, their success caught the eyes of the Star Trek copyright holders, Paramount Pictures and CBS Studios. The studios filed a lawsuit for copyright infringement but with some alleged interceding by JJ Abrahms and Justin Lin, two successful Star Trek film directors, they eventually came to an out-of-court settlement.

Mike Bawden, former Axanar Productions PR spokesman and Rob Burnett, editor of the short film and was slated to direct the feature, will be joining us to tell us their story. Their experience will hopefully enlighten us on the trials and tribulations of producing a successful fan film.

This is one meeting you will not want to miss.  Join us on Tuesday, February 11th at 6PM.
